Some More Faces in the Forest

I love looking for faces in the forest and in the driftwood when I’m out walking Ralphie. It’s amazing what you can see when you start looking.

I thought that one looked like a Scottie dog.

A pouncing cat.

A bit like a gorilla.

A large bird at the base of the tree.

More Faces in the Forest

When I’m out with Ralphie on our walks, I love looking for faces in the trees and driftwood. What do you think?

Do you ever get the feeling someone’s watching you?

I thought this looked like a moose.

And you just thought you were going for a walk.

Sculptures on the Beach

I have noticed, on my beach walks, the artistic hand of humans put to assembling driftwood and stones into unusual shapes and structures.

I love that time and thought has gone into creating something which, by its very nature, is temporary…

… destined to eventually succumb to the wind and waves of the coast.

What a Difference a Day Makes

Today I woke up (or, more correctly, Ralphie woke me up) to blue skies and sun. The winter jacket I wore yesterday was replaced by a spring jacket. And off Ralphie and I went to Piper’s Lagoon again. But, what a difference a day makes.

Yesterday, all was grey and Ralphie and I had Piper’s virtually to ourselves (which we both quite like). But today, the parking lot was full, the sky was blue and children played on the beaches. It was a lovely March day, warm but still fresh, and the air was so clean — the best air, like pure oxygen.

There is something about the beaches on Vancouver Island — they’re so sculptural…

…and the trees without their leaves have a stark beauty…

…you notice how the bark looks like the skin of a great serpent.

The water was like a satin sheet today and kids bobbed along on the water in their inflatable raft…

…but Ralphie had eyes only for one thing.

Animal Beach

Ralphie, Jamjarjude and I went to the zoo today where we saw lots of exotic animals.

There was a dragon…

…and a whale keeping his eye on us…

…and a crocodile hiding under some grass…

…and a fierce lion hiding in the bushes…

…and a brontosaurus…

…and a wily red fox,,,

…a very barky dog (I guess he’d seen Ralphie)…

…a seal…

….and a big shark.

Ralphie even found a human.

And we thought we were just going for a walk on the beach.
